Dartmoor
Situated near the peaceful villages of Brentor and Milton Combe on the edge of Dartmoor, Sally's holiday cottages are ideal bases for walkers, cyclists, horseriders and those wishing to enjoy the magnificent moorland, granite tors, historic remains and wooded valleys of the Dartmoor National Park. The local area, steeped in mining history dating back to 1700, is part of the Cornwall & West Devon Mining Landscape which has received international recognition as a World Heritage Site.
Lydford Gorge (National Trust) with its breathtaking Devil's Cauldron and outstanding White Lady Waterfall is within walking distance of The Smithy and Thorn Cottage. Refreshments are available at each end of the gorge.
Burrator Reservoir is a short drive from the Bolthole at Milton Combe and offers gentle walks or drives round the reservoir or more challenging hikes on to open moorland.
Dartmeet, where the East Dart and West Dart rivers meet, is a beautiful spot popular with walkers and families as it has a large car-park and walks up and down the river and refreshments are available at the Badgers Holt.
A little further afield, Castle Drogo (NT) , the last castle to be built in England, and Buckfast Abbey, home to a community of Benedictine Monks, are both well worth a visit.
