Things to do
Sally's holiday cottages are ideally situated for walkers, cyclists, horseriders and those wishing to explore Dartmoor with its miles of spectacular rugged moorland and magnificent granite tors. Lydford Gorge, Lopwell Dam, Buckland Abbey, the acclaimed Garden House at Buckland Monachorum and the historic market town of Tavistock with its award winning farmers market and pannier market are among the many local attractions. The north coast for surfing and bodyboarding is also easily accessible.
The National Cycle Route 27 ('The Granite Way') passes through North Brentor close by The Smithy. Also Drake's Trail, a 21 mile walking and cycling route from Tavistock to Plymouth, offers scenic routes over Gem Bridge and through Grenofen Tunnel. There are a variety of footpaths and dog walks directly from the cottages.
There are some excellent pubs within a short drive. We can personally recommend The Peter Tavy Inn and The Castle Inn in Lydford. The Mary Tavy Inn is within walking distance of The Smithy using the West Devon Way during daylight hours! The Who'd Have Thought It Inn, which dates back to the 16th Century, is just a short stroll from the Bolthole and Annie' Cottage.
